As a non-profit organization it's essential that you have an accurate picture of the people you serve.
Many times that number is not what you expect. How many people enter and grab a brochure or ask a question? Aren't these types of services part of your mission? Are they being represented in your reports and funding?
Non-profit boards need to deal with real numbers in order to gauge the effectiveness of their mission. Being able to present real statistics instead of guesses and assumption can really pay off in terms of accurately describing your needs.
I run a library and before the People Counter the only statistics we could really use were how many books outstanding, or how many books on the shelves, etc. But, these numbers came no where close to measuring what we were really doing. Patrons used our facility for research or just catching up on the news and so didn't reflect in our old metrics. We tried to have the staff do regular head counts, but they always seemed a little off, sometimes they forgot and it was always distracting to our patrons.
When I installed our first People Counter, I was amazed by how wrong our statistics really were.
The People Counter is very small and unobtrusive, It has no moving parts and is accurate and solid.
